A charming vintage Japanese kokeshi family comprising six hand-painted wooden figures in graduating sizes.
The two larger dolls are decorated in traditional kimono-inspired designs, with vivid reds, blues, florals and beautifully stylised faces, while the smaller family members repeat the same wonderfully simple folk-art character.
Turned from wood and individually painted, the figures show the small variations and brushwork that give traditional kokeshi their distinctive personality.
A particularly appealing vintage Japanese folk-art group, lovely displayed together as a family.
Condition: Vintage condition with rubbing, paint wear and small marks consistent with age. One larger figure shows particularly visible wear to the painted decoration; this forms part of its vintage character.
