Vintage Carved Wooden Turkey Platter– Posey Spruce
Beautifully carved from wood, this fabulous turkey stands proudly with its magnificent fan-shaped tail spread behind him. The sweeping grain of the timber forms part of the design, while the warm colour and aged patina give the piece all the character we look for at Gladstone Studios.
Turn him over and there’s another part of his story. The underside carries a Posey spruce stamp, connecting the timber with the historic Posey Manufacturing Company of Hoquiam, Washington.
Founded in 1909, Posey became renowned for its fine-grained Sitka spruce, a timber particularly prized for its acoustic qualities and used for piano and guitar soundboards. The company also turned its skills to beautifully made wooden household wares, including bowls, plates and serving trays.
Our turkey is a wonderfully quirky survivor of that tradition — beautifully made, tactile and quite unlike anything being produced for the modern Christmas market.
Use him as a Christmas table centrepiece, surround him with greenery, nuts and seasonal decorations, or simply put him somewhere he can show off that extraordinary tail.
Not originally made as a Christmas decoration, perhaps — but we think he was born for Christmas.
