An unusual vintage set of five hand-painted wooden nesting dolls, ranging from the large outer figure down to the tiny innermost doll.
Unlike traditional brightly decorated matryoshka dolls, this striking set is painted predominantly in glossy black, with natural wood faces and hands picked out in fine hand-painted detail.
Each figure has a subtly different expression, giving the complete group a wonderful folk-art quality.
All five dolls are present and nest neatly inside one another.
Condition: Good vintage condition with surface rubbing, scratches and small areas of paint wear consistent with age. Please see photographs.
